Exercise:

Find the drawing at this location, and save it to your Google Drive. GoogleDoc

  1. Drag the molecule names to the right sections to identify the three molecules in wood pulp.
  2. Drag the White Liquor drawing over the molecule that dissolves in white liquor.
  3. Drag the Paper icon over the molecule that that is used to make paper.
  4. Draw circles around all of the monomers you see in the segment of the cellulose polymer.

In a chemical change, the atoms are rearranged into a different molecule (or set of molecules). In a physical change, any molecules remain the same throughout the change. When lignin is dissolved and rinsed out of the wood pulp, which kind of change is involved? Explain how you knew this.
